Flossie in the trees

May 8th, 2011 | Posted by M1ACB in General - (0 Comments)

Flossie made the trip with us of course. It was a little difficult to get her up the lane to the cottage on Arran with more than a little tree pruning required.

Things were easier on the way back down the track, if a little wet after the thunder storms.

MM0MJH/PM works VK7… Take II

May 7th, 2011 | Posted by M0MJH in General - (0 Comments)

We thought it was a shame that there was no recorded evidence of Mark’s QSO with the VK7s so it was decided last night to try and emulate the success of Wednesday’s attempt and make contact again. VK7ZE and VK7XX were emailed and Mark received an email back from VK7ZE agreeing to be on frequency at 0600 UTC. Rob (M0VFC) agreed to get up early to video the attempt.

Contact was made at around 0620 UTC on the 7th May and was recorded at both our end of the QSO and at VK7ZE. Below is Laurie’s recording.

Mark also tried lowering his power this time as the path was so good between all stations. He was copied down as far as 0.5w and given a minimum signal report of 53 on that power.

Video to follow later…

So we have to leave the cottage by 9am tomorrow, we need to be at the ferry port about 1 hour away by 10.15 so we started taking antennas down today.  So far the 80m vertical is down, we still have an 80m dipole up. The Spiderbeam is gone so we have have lost 10m and 15m. The 4m and 6m beams and the 160m long wire is down.

We still have verticals up for 40m and 20m and dipoles for 80m and 30m. So tonight look for us on 80m, 40m, 30m and 20m.

Here is another photo in the series “why does it work so well from GS3PYE/P” which I took from the beach today. You can really see why we have a fantastic take off towards to west.
